The Christian Church has shown ambivalence toward issues of depression and mental health over the past century. This presentation will examine issues related to depression and suicide, the role of secrecy, and the challenge to provide effective biblical counseling and ministry.

1. Identify examples of the view of the Church on issues of depression and mental health
2. Examine at least four responses to depression and mental health that contribute to difficulties in providing effective counseling and ministry
3. Explore some effective ways to counsel and assist Christians who are dealing with issues of depression and mental illness
