Conservative Christian clients often have concerns about meditation, yet scientific research and the Bible support its practice. Ethically, mental health professionals are called to adapt their therapy to address clients’ religious cultural concerns. This workshop focuses on how to adapt meditation to address Christian concerns so it can be used as an effective stress-coping device for this population. Experiential activities will be optional and handouts for therapeutic use will be provided.

Learning Objectives
Participants will:
1. Identify common religious concerns that conservative Christian clients have with various meditation forms and how to respond to these
2. Describe the ethical mandate in mental health professional codes to provide multiculturally-sensitive (religiously accommodative) treatment
3. Practice adapted meditation forms that increase their acceptability to conservative Christian clients
